PENIS FACTS
Real science. Real data. Real awkward dinner conversation.
THE GLOBAL AVERAGE
The average erect penis length worldwide is approximately 13.12 cm (5.16 inches), according to a 2015 study published in the British Journal of Urology International that analyzed data from 15,521 men.
SIZE & COUNTRY
Studies suggest modest variations by region, but self-reported data is notoriously unreliable. Countries where measurements were taken by medical professionals tend to report shorter averages. Funny, that.
MICROPENIS
A micropenis is medically defined as an erect penis shorter than 7 cm (2.75 inches). It affects roughly 0.6% of the population and is a real medical condition, not an insult.
THE BIGGEST EVER?
Jonah Falcon claims to have the largest recorded penis at 34.3 cm (13.5 inches). This has never been independently verified under scientific conditions. Make of that what you will.
GROWERS VS. SHOWERS
About 79% of men are 'growers' (significant size increase when erect) and 21% are 'showers' (relatively little change). Flaccid size is a poor predictor of erect size.
HEIGHT CORRELATION
There is only a very weak correlation between height and penis length (r = 0.2). Tall men are not meaningfully more likely to be larger. Sorry, tall guys.
HAND SIZE & FOOT SIZE
The old myth about hand size or shoe size predicting penis length has been thoroughly debunked. Multiple large-scale studies found no significant correlation.
PARTNER SATISFACTION
Studies consistently show that the vast majority of women are satisfied with their partner's size. Width tends to matter more than length for physical pleasure.
THE SHRINKAGE EFFECT
Cold temperatures, stress, and exercise can temporarily reduce penis size by up to 50%. This is called vasoconstriction, and it's completely normal. Always measure in comfortable conditions.
EVOLUTION
Humans have the largest penis relative to body size of any primate. Gorillas, despite being much larger, average only about 3 cm erect. Take that, King Kong.
THE BONE
Most mammals have a baculum (penis bone). Humans do not. This makes humans one of the few mammals that rely entirely on blood pressure for erections. No bones about it.
ANCIENT PERSPECTIVES
In ancient Greece, a small penis was considered ideal and a sign of self-control and intelligence. Large penises were associated with foolishness and lust. Times have changed.
